Lumbar puncture across patient types and positions
This simulator is designed to support formal procedural skills training and assessment in lumbar puncture. Students and healthcare professionals can practise frequently in a safe training environment without patients.
The model closely simulates the lumbar anatomy including the anatomical landmarks and provides a lifelike sensation of both skin and tissue resistance to the spinal needle. Simulated CSF can be collected and CSF pressure measured under clinically realistic conditions.
The transparent puncture blocks allow direct observation of both the anatomy and the needle path. Six blocks are included: five for lumbar puncture across different patient types and one for epidural practice. Three support bases allow training in the sitting position, in the lateral position and for team teaching, and a separate anatomical model of the lumbar spine helps students understand the anatomy.
Applications
- Lumbar puncture in the sitting or lateral position
- Epidural procedures
- Collection of simulated CSF and pressure measurement
- Training on normal, obese and elderly patient anatomy
- Team teaching and skills assessment
