Two paediatric procedures on one simulator
Caudal block is a widely used method of regional anaesthesia in paediatric surgery. This simulator represents a 12-month-old infant in the left lateral decubitus position with the neck and knees flexed, and allows both caudal block and lumbar puncture to be practised on the same model.
In addition to the lumbar puncture functions, the model features an anatomically correct coccyx with sacral hiatus. The iliac crest is embedded, the spine is removable and the spinal canal gives a tactilely correct feel during puncture.
Two soft skin pads are included: a transparent pad for studying the anatomy and an opaque pad for more advanced hands-on training. Fluid flow gives immediate feedback on correct needle placement for either procedure.
