THORAXIS – neuraxial block training in the thoracic region
THORAXIS is a simulator for training common neuraxial blocks in the thoracic region. The ultrasound-compatible model contains the anatomical structures of the thoracic spine and provides a realistic dural puncture. With realistic loss of resistance and a fluid-filled intrathecal space, users can locate the correct target sites.
The spinal space consists of fluid-filled tubing that simulates the dural click and CSF confirmation, and the epidural space allows the loss of resistance technique to be practised. The spinous processes are visible and palpable for locating the interspace, the ligamentum flavum has a tough, gritty texture, and the superior and inferior angles of the scapula serve as anatomical landmarks.
Applications
- Thoracic epidural loss of resistance (LOR)
- Epidural and spinal catheter placement
- Ultrasound training
